New York's community-based youth courts now operate in 27 neighborhoods across the state. Trained teen jurors hear cases involving peers accused of minor offenses and craft sentences focused on repair rather than punishment.

Recidivism among participants has dropped to 12 percent β€” roughly a third of the rate seen in traditional juvenile proceedings.
