Across northern and central Australia, Indigenous ranger programs are applying millennia-old cool-burn techniques to reduce fuel loads and lower the severity of summer bushfires.

Areas managed with traditional fire practices have seen a 50 percent reduction in destructive wildfire events over the past five years. The work also generates carbon credits that fund ranger employment in remote communities.
