Japan's food rescue network has saved millions of meals from landfills

Japan's Mottainai Food Rescue Network now operates in 38 prefectures, connecting over 6,000 food donors with 1,200 distribution points.

Since its founding, the initiative has redirected an estimated 14 million meals from landfills to families, shelters, and community kitchens. The program has cut participating donors' waste disposal costs by an average of 30 percent.
